Episode 7 Sorry

Sometimes saying sorry is necessary, a well deserved admission of wronging someone. Sometimes saying sorry is a natural reflex for someone used to being blamed even when not at fault. And, sometimes, sorry is said as a way to control and gaslight. Heartstopper gives us all 3 in this heart wrenching episode.

Isaac finally lashes out. Nick’s dad is back, Nick’s brother is back, and Ben is back… Heartstopper should be sorry!

Sarah is just the most supportive mom ever. I love how she loves Nick unconditionally and has accepted Charlie’s role in Nick’s life fully and completely.

I really love Charlie and Tori’s relationship.

I love how the texting among the group always plays a prominent role. Truly drawing on real life. Because, whether you’re a teenager or an adult-ish, texting is a way of life.

Look, I know I keep commenting on how great this friend group is, but only because it is well deserved. Look at them all pitching in to help Darcy buy this suit for prom. We all deserve a friend group like this.

This conversation between Isaac and James is so sad. And so real. What Issac is saying to him are words I have said to myself. Knowing you don’t feel the way others do, or the way society expects you to, is so confusing and scary. And James saying maybe Isaac just hasn’t found the right person yet, is so frustrating. I have heard that more times than I care to think about. It really amplifies the feelings that there is something wrong with you.

And the way his friends react - well, it’s not their fault. Society teaches us that there are certain expectations about relationships, even for Queer people. It’s almost unfathomable for people to believe that some of us just may not have the desire for romantic or physical attraction. Yay for Isaac for telling them off, though.

I love this art show for so many reasons. But, complete honesty, the biggest reason is because it sends Isaac on his path to discovering AroAce - for both himself and me.

This painting make anyone think of another painting? Like the one that caught Elle’s eye back in Paris at the Louvre?

The way that Nick steps in front of Charlie, as if to protect Charlie from Ben, is just the sweetest thing. I may not experience romance, myself, but I know what it looks like. And Nick is the definition of Romantic Figure.

And when he respects Charlie’s decision to hear Ben out, yet remains close behind, is just more proof of that.

Charlie telling off Ben is epic. He has come such a long way from the timid, unconfident boy of Season 1.

When I first watched this show, I wondered if crossing his arms was something Kit chose to do for Nick. After watching several episodes, and other works that Kit was in, I now know that this is very much a Kit thing.

OLIVIA COLEMAN!!!!!!! I just love this shot of her, so ethereal and soft.

Explain to me why none of the adults put an end to David’s bullshit?! Tori tried. David’s an ass who is intent on humiliating Charlie and Nick.

But the way Nick stands up to him and tells him off is just beautiful.

I do like that Sarah comes out to check on him after she tells off Nick’s dad.

Nick asking Sarah why his dad doesn’t care is so heartbreaking. And all too familiar. Too many times, I asked this same question while growing up. Eventually, as Nick learns here, you just have to learn not to care.

Seriously, Tori is the ultimate older sister! David is lucky she didn’t kick him down the stairs.

Well, the end of Season 2 is in sight. See you next time for Perfect.
