Episode 1 On Infernal Ground

Everyone is standing on infernal, shaky ground in this season premiere.

Lilith, quite literally, as she rises from Edom to save Jonathan. Yes, she knows he’s dead.

Jace, as he struggles with saying goodbye to the parents he never met. And lying to his Parabatai.

Clary, as she struggles with keeping the truth about the wish from Alec, Izzy, and The Clave.

Alec, as he misses Magnus’ pain in the face of trying to figure out what Jace and Clary are hiding.

Magnus, as he hides his pain in order to not burden Alec or influence an important decision.

Raphael, as he lies to Magnus. And NOT for a good cause.

Simon, as he has a strange mark bestowed upon him by the Seelie Queen and Meliorn.

Only Magnus and Alec find stable ground as they finally start figuring out that whole ‘communication’ thing.

And myself, as I struggle to not celebrate Malec’s huge step forward loud enough to wake my neighbors.

Remember this face, y’all. It’s going to be very important this season.

I love that Clary finally gets her Angel Rune. It’s long overdue.

Look at that pretty face, tho. He knows Clary (and Jace) are lying to him. And he is so not happy about it.

Such a contrast between the looks on Alec’s and Jace’s faces. Alec all broody and suspicious and beautiful. Jace all proud and guilty and pretty. And then there’s Izzy all happy and unbothered and gorgeous.

Alec really is not letting this ‘Jace died’ belief go. With very good reasons.

I’m really glad that Jace gets a chance to visit the graves of his parents. This poor guy has been through hell. And it’s not over yet.

They would be proud of you, Jace.

Someone please explain to me, in what universe is this an owl? And do NOT say the Shadow World/Shadowhunters universe, smartasses.

Alec nosing through Magnus’ apothecary room is hilarious.

I wonder how many times Harry and Matt practiced this ‘tossing and catching the olive’ move before getting it right.

Alec, PAY ATTENTION!! Magnus is NOT okay with losing his High Warlock position. If I could tell that on my first day here, you have no excuse my guy.

My poor Magnus, hiding his pain so he can be supportive of Alec’s chance of a promotion and fulfilling one of his dreams.

And poor Alec just so baffled as to why Magnus is not more upset as the promotion will mean Alec moving to Idris and away from Magnus.

It’s always great to see Will. Jonathan, not so much. Especially in this fucked up dream.

Jace, these really are some creepy dreams.

Poor Simon. He was so scared as to what the Queen and Meliorn were doing to him. Welcome to the Mark of Cain, my sweet Simon.

I do love when Jace and Clary spar.

I really don’t understand why Jace thought he could keep his resurrection from Alec. Bro, you do know how that Parabatai Rune works… Right?!

Gods bless Catarina for cluing Alec in on the fact that Magnus is, in fact, NOT okay. Which I said, already.

Alec, my love, you really need to learn how to read your boyfriend. And please, for the love of the Angel, start listening to me!!

Magnus has such a big and open heart. The way he is concerned about Raphael. It just shows how much Magnus loves him.

And I know Raphael cares about Magnus. But I hate that he was lying to him, here.

Magnus cares so much about others. But he won’t let others care for him because he fears being a burden to those he loves. Or of losing them. It must so exhausting to love like that.

Clary taking out the Tim-Demon is epic!

I love this Malec scene so much. Alec confronting Magnus about him lying about being upset about losing High Warlock.

Magnus confessing and telling Alec he didn’t want Alec to see him like that, Alec reminding him that Magnus can always be honest about his feelings.

Magnus confessing that he doesn’t want Alec to move to Idris, Alec asking why he didn’t tell him that before, Magnus confessing that he didn’t want how he felt to influence Alec’s decision.

Alec confessing that all he cares about is how Magnus feels and that he didn’t want to go to Idris without Magnus but Magnus made him feel like he wanted Alec to go. THIS KISS!!

Alec’s “I’m not going anywhere.”

Magnus’ oh so happy smile. Absolute perfection. This is how we communicate, my loves!
