Episode 4 Thy Soul Instructed

There is a lot of struggling with listening to their souls, for the gang, in this episode.

Lilith is frustrated that other souls (coughJacecough) will just not quite bend to her will.

Jace struggles to hold onto his though he doesn’t know that’s what is happening. Yet.

Clary struggles with hers as she continues to lie to Alec.

Maia restrains hers from going full wolf on Luke after his very shitty decision.

Alec struggles with trying to balance helping Jace with performing his Shadowhunter duties.

Izzy continues to hold her secrets close.

Only Simon and Magnus are listening.

Simon’s soul remains pure and sweet. Despite Luke abandoning him.

Magnus’ remains focused on his Alexander and how he can help with those duties.

My soul, however, continues to rage at and curse the idiots that cancelled this show. Even 7 years later.

The way Lilith talks about Jonathan is almost heartbreaking. It seems she does care about him. In her own messed up, demonic way.

For being the’main’ couple, Shadowhunters spent more time keeping these two apart. It’s sad because there was clearly something there. And Kat and Dom have great chemistry. Anyone who says different is blind.

Clace is the Shadowhunters version of Stydia - way too slow burn with little payoff.

Izzy and Alec work so well together. They make a really great team. Though I do wonder why Alec didn’t already think of having Magnus come look at Morgan right here.

Luke - DO we know that? And even if we did, how am I supposed to keep the pack from doing something stupid and getting themselves blown to pieces?

Maia - You tell them to stop acting like prejudice dicks. It’s none of their business if I want to date a vampire. You tell them to leave Simon alone.

Lue - And you got some magic fairy dust that I can sprinkle around to make that happen? We’re talking about vampires and werewolves. Thousands of years of hate. It’s not pretty, but that’s the way it is.

Maia - I can’t believe those words just came out of your mouth. Are you seriously telling me there’s no use in trying to change bigoted behavior?

Hell yeah, Maia! You tell him girl! That’s what I said!

I love Jordan! He’s the perfect roommate and friend for Simon.

You gotta give it to Alec. He’s not giving up on trying to get Clary to confess about Jace. He’s not being a dick about it, tho. See, growth.

Clary, babe, you need to tell him. As he often is, Jace is wrong.

Jace, darlin, you look like shit. You need to tell someone. Like Alec!!

“Too pretty for your own good?”

Why yes, Alec, you are. Oh wait! You were talking to Jace.

Jace! If you were really okay, you would NOT be treating Alec like this. Dude! Use your head!

Alec! Don’t look like that! Jace is not himself and you know it. Do not take his attack personally. You were right to bring your concerns to him.

Poor Jace. Alec did get to him. I love that he goes to Luke to ask about his mom and her mental health. This show really likes to put Jace through hell. Like Teen Wolf did to Stiles.

I just love how these two love each other. I love Magnus offering to help figure out the Morgan thing. I love Alec saying ‘you help me all the time.’ I love the way they look at each other. If soulmates are a real thing, these two are the definition.

The way Magnus can calm Alec down. They way Alec smiles when he realizes just how Magnus is helping him. THIS LOOK!!!!!!

Ugh, why are they so damn adorable?!

I love Izzy. Honestly, I think that she got overlooked a lot. Lost in the drama that is Clace and the perfection that is Malec. Alec may be the broody one, but Izzy is the mysterious one.

Izzy and Clay are a really great team. I love how well they work together. And I love how Clary actually listens to Izzy in a way she never does to Alec or even Jace.

Guys! THIS IS NOT AN OWL!!!!!! Seriously, this irritates my soul.

Look how pretty. I so love when Alec goes all tough-leader-who-is-done-taking-bullshit!

Alec, I told you - back at the start of this episode - to bring Magnus in. Now look.

Love Magnus in this red blazer. That’s a really great color on Harry.

Luke, you have a lot of nerve checking up on Simon now. You’re the reason Jordan is there in the first place. I know you care about Simon. Just not enough to put on your big boy Alpha pants and be a real leader.

This is the face of someone that actually cares about Simon. Even if he does have secrets.

I love when Magnus is just doing simple life things like taking inventory of his Apothecary.

Magnus! No! The one time I need you to be more suspicious and listen to your gut!! This is not going to end well for any of us.
