Episode 12 Original Sin

Though the title suggests dark and angsty, this episode also has light and funny moments.

Magnus and Alec give the Queer Community one of the best makeout representation scenes in tv history - laying groundwork and opening doors that were previously closed to the community.

Jace and Luke make progress in their search for Clary.

Simon and Izzy discover the first vampire when they find Cain in the New York sewers.

Magnus panics about running out of time now that he’s a Mundane.

Alec works his magic and calms Magnus.

Izzy jeopardizes her health to save Simon’s life.

Jace and Clary are reunited.

Poor Magnus. He is not handling having a timeline on his life very well. I get that. I get that he feels like he needs to rush to fit everything in. But he’s wrong. He needs to slow down and savor the important moments. He is funny, tho. There is so much about this scene that is hilarious.

Like this look on Alec’s face when Magnus gives him a quick peck and then tells him to hurry up because it’s time for their morning workout.

Alec may be irritated by this turn. But those of us that know how this workout is going to go… well we are not 😏

And here we are! The Malec Workout Scene! This scene had the Malec fandom in a chokehold the minute it aired. 7 Years later, it still does.

This scene is so intense in the very best way. From their banter, to the way they both move so graceful and fluid, to the looks they throw at each other, to Mattis’ The Chain as the soundtrack. It all comes together in a perfect storm of adrenaline and attraction and emotion.

Then there’s the final banter that leads to the powerful climax (oh yes I did 😏) When Magnus taunts Alec one final time with “Oh you’re so cute when you’re serious.”

Alec reminds him “I told you not to flirt with me.” Before pushing him up against the column.

What we get is one of the hottest make out scenes in television history. And I say that as an asexual, guys! Turns out Magnus and Alec training together is epic foreplay.

I have talked, many times, about the way Harry and Matt were so careful to be authentic and true to the characters and who they are. They always nail it. But this is a whole new level. What they did here, it changed so much for the way LGBTQIA+ relationships are represented. These two really open so many doors and laid so much groundwork for what you are seeing in media now.

I love Jace and Luke working together to find Clary. They really make a good team.

Simon and Izzy make a great team, also. I am so glad that Izzy went into the sewers with him.

I have seen several takes on Cain, and this is one of my favs. The sadness, the way he is resigned to his fate, the guilt over Abel and fear of hurting others - it’s all done so well. But how and why is he living in the sewers of New York??

We are absolutely NOT losing Simon!!

I love that Alec tries to make Magnus feel better about being mortal, now.

If Jace’s hair gets any blonder, he’s going to glow in the dark.

It’s really hard to hate Jonathan right now.

I love that Alec is finally able to get through to Magnus and make him realize that rushing through things is not really living. That he is able to get to see that taking time to savor their time together is what is important.

And how Magnus remembers that everything he needs is right there in Alec.

More proof of how far Alec has come since season 1. That Alec would have never kissed a guy in the middle of a public street. He might have dreamed about it, but he would have never acted on it. But here we are, with our favorite Archer very happily kissing his boyfriend in the middle of a public and busy area.

But why the hell does this show insist on interrupting their romantic moments? I know, I know need-to-move-the-plot-forward. Whatever.

The look on Meliorn’s face when he tells Izzy to ‘bring your friend if you like’ after suggesting they need to ‘hang out’ again, is absolutely hilarious.

This girl that plays the Seelie Queen is fabulous.

I love the way Alec is always so focused on Magnus, especially when he is talking. Like he doesn’t want to miss a word or a facial expression.

Magnus’ crack about ‘not being one to namedrop’ is a hilarious call back to the conversation during their training session at the beginning of the episode.

Izzy saving Simon, even knowing what it will cost her - backsliding on her vampire venom addiction - is truly heroic.

Finally a happy Jace and Clary moment!

See ya next time for Beati Bellicosi
