Episode 11 Lost Souls
We’re all a little lost in this episode.
Simon, Magnus, and Jace feels lost as they mourn the ‘loss’ of Clary.
Simon and Jace, especially, as they each continue to blame themselves.
Jace is also lost as he struggles with the memories of the pain that the Owl brought.
Magnus is lost as he struggles to accept the loss of his magic and adapt to Mundane life.
Magnus is - quite literally - lost when Iris kidnaps from under Alec and Izzy.
Alec is lost as he tries to find Magnus and blames himself for Magnus being taken.
I am lost as I cycle between giggles and raging like the twists and turns of the old Vortex Roller Coaster at Kings Islandl.
Only Izzy has her shit together, as she offers comfort to Jace and Alec, and devises the plan to save Magnus.
Dear Shadowhunters writers, who the hell thought it was a good idea to start 3B here? No explanation of how Alec survived an arrow to the heart? Or how Alec and Jace feel about Magnus sacrificing his magic for them? Or Alec, Magnus, and Izzy’s reaction to hearing that Clary is dead?? Wankers!!
This montage is heartbreaking. Poor Simon all alone and blaming himself. I am glad that Maia shows up, but I wish Izzy had been there with him.
Poor Magnus, mourning his Biscuit. I am so glad that Alec is there with him. I know Alec is grieving, also. And they definitely need each other.
And poor Jace, all alone and mourning Clary while he goes through her room. And finding that drawing she did of him asleep!!
While I do miss Will and that excellent accent, I very much enjoy Luke’s portrayal of Jonathan. Where Will’s JC was intense and angry, Luke’s is soft with a quiet desperation.
I so love these Soft Malec moments. They are so damn precious and we should have gotten so much more of them like this.
“But it’s not about beauty. A tiger has stripes. I have eyeliner.”
It’s good to see that - even though he’s hurting and missing his magic - Magnus remains sassy and dramatic.
This smile tells me that Alec also appreciates that.
Sweet Simon! She’s not dead! You didn’t hurt her! Even if she was, it would not have been your fault.
Watching Jace struggle with the memories of all the pain and destruction the Owl caused while wearing his face is devastating. It reminds me of watching Stiles go through something similar after he was possessed by the Nogitsune.
Thank the Angel that Izzy got to Jace’s room when she did!!
I love this shot of Magnus as he watches Alec read to Madzie. That smile on his face is so sweet. I can only imagine that part of the reason for that look is the thought of his wife and the child she was about to bring into the world, as Shelby would have been in her last trimester at the time of this episode.
The way Magnus and Alec are with Madzie is so adorable. I really hate that we were denied getting to see them become parents thanks to the idiots that cancelled this show!!
Another Soft Malec moment. Watching Magnus try to be okay and accept that his magic is gone - and failing - is awful. He wants to be strong for Alec, doesn’t want to burden Alec with his pain. I’m glad Alec is there for him.
I am both proud of and terrified by Magnus’ insistence to help find and catch Iris. Look at that sweet, earnest face!! I need that face to stay safe!
Alec does too! Evident here as he tries to convince Magnus to stay behind. Even though we all know Magnus will never do that.
It was nice to see Jace acknowledge what Magnus sacrificed for him. And to look a bit guilty. It’s not his fault, but if he can feel all that guilt over Clary, he can sure as hell spare some for Magnus.
I love that Alec put his foot down with Jace - reminding him of all Magnus and Luke and Simon sacrificed and risked to save him.
I love Magnus as a Warlock and seeing him without his magic stresses me out. However, it was fun to see him use the Shadowhunter blade. He’s got skills.
And you can tell that Harry was having a really good time with it.
But this look on Alec’s face when Iris kidnaps Magnus!!! Girl, when he finds you, you’re in so much trouble!
I have to chuckle at Luke in the motel room. The way he jumps to look out the window when Jace knocks, like the guy that just gave the Feds all the information on the local crime boss in all those Mafia movies and shows.
Why is it that people keep wanting to capture and torture Magnus? As if he hasn’t been through enough. But even without his magic, he stands tall and defiant in the face of Iris’ insanity.
But the changes in Magnus’ stance and demeanor, the deepening of his voice - this is Harry showing us that this is a darker Magnus that we don’t get to see much.
Alec you know that you could not have stopped Magnus from coming to look for Iris. Magnus is strong and stubborn and makes his own choices.
Izzy’s plan to rescue Magnus from Iris is genius. And the way she slow motion walks out of the smoke is spectacular! Like truly hot as hell!!
And, of course, Archer Alec came to the party. We wouldn’t have it any other way.
I completely feel Alec’s relief at finding Magnus safe. Poo Magnus apologizing for not being able to stop Iris, Alec comforting him and reassuring him that he did a wonderful job at resisting her - Dear Hecate I just love these two!
I’m so proud of Alec for the way he stands up to the Consul! Alec has come such a long way since he fell in love with Magnus. Season 1 Alec would have never been so defiant and snarky. And I really love this smirk when Jia says she’ll be watching his every move.
I love the way Alec is able to calm Magnus down and reassure him.
It’s amazing how Matt can go from the tough badass in the previous scene with the Consul, to this sweet romantic guy in this scene with Magnus. Just beautiful and powerful talent.
I love Alec offering to train Magnus - especially knowing that it gifts us THAT SCENE in the next episode. I have so much for Harry and Matt for the love and care they gave these characters, for the authenticity they gave to their stories, for the love and respect they gave the LGBTQIA+ Community.
See ya next time for Original Sin
