Episode 16 Stay With Me

While there are a few other things going on - this episode is very much a Malec episode.

Magnus has a near death dream about his life with and love for Alec.

Alec literally begs Magnus to stay with him as he has to sit by and watch Magnus fight for his life.

Catarina warns Alec of the danger Magnus faces.

Alec gets emotional with Lorenzo as he pleads for him to help Magnus.

Luke tries to go it alone in prison but Maryse isn’t having it.

Simon and Izzy make the most adorable pinky swear ever.

Magnus struggles with his self worth without his magic.

Jace and Simon continue to pretend to hate each other while having the sweetest friendship.

Alec asks Maryse for the Lightwood ring.

I am an emotional wreck thanks to Daddario and Harry. But it sparks an interesting Malec/Jace theory so I’m not mad at it. Also, I could never be mad at Malec, even when they are ripping my heart out.

I love so many things about this opening scene. One of my favorite things is this look on Alec’s face while looking at Magnus. Somehow Matt manages to convey sweet, gay, and mischievous with one damn look!

And the way Magnus responds to Alec - the teasing, the impish smile, the trust - so damn beautiful. Though I do hate that this is all happening in Magnus’ head while he is dying!!

Then there is the dancing! I love watching Harry dance. I could watch him do it all day. And thanks to YouTube, I have. Watching him dance with Matt, as Magnus and Alec, is so fucking special. They did a fantastic job and I wish that we would have gotten more of it.

Alec at Magnus’ bedside is devastating. The way he squeezes his hands together, as if he is afraid to touch Magnus in case he hurts him, and like he wants to punish himself for what he thinks is his fault.

Speaking of Alec blaming himself, him confessing his guilt to Magnus and begging him to come back to him is so soul crushing. Matt does such a great job. As did Harry because I have no idea how he managed to lay there and not react to everything that Alec was saying to Magnus.

At 5’11, Harry is not a small man. And he has strong, beautiful hands. But in Matt’s larger hands. Harry’s look so fragile and delicate. It’s quite beautiful.

Alec’s conversation with Catarina is so intense. The immediate fear as she explains that Magnus is rejecting Lorenzo’s magic. Then that turning to anger as he becomes certain that Lorenzo did this on purpose, even as Catarina tries to explain the impossibility of that. It’s so powerful.

And every time he looks back at Magnus in that bed, the way the fear and anger collide in his face is stunning. Matt’s extraordinary talent is on full display in this episode.

This is the face of a man hellbent on avenging the love of his life.

Ugh, Lorenzo invading Magnus’ home makes my skin crawl. I love Alec coming there to confront him.

“For me, it’s only one. Magnus.” Alec begging Lorenzo to take his magic away from Magnus, to save his life, the tear he can’t contain, the pain and fear in his voice - it’s just all so fucking good. I am not an emotional person, but Matt breaks me, over and over, in this episode.

This look tells me that he got to Lorenzo, too.

I really hate that Luke is in prison. And that he tries to push Maryse away. Thank the Angel she didn’t let him.

“I’m not sure I want love in my life. Not if it hurts lke that.” An understandable sentiment, Izzy. But it doesn’t work that way. Not for people like you, my big hearted goddess.

A pinky promise destined to be broken. But they break it for each other, so it’s okay.

Magnus, I know that you feel less than whole without your magic. I really do understand. But you are so much more than those powers. Your life is worth so much more.

Even after your time with Alec, you think you’re less than nothing. You are 100% wrong, my love.

“I won’t lose you. I can’t.” Oh Alec!!!!!!!

Magnus, for the love of Hecate, please listen to your man!

“Good job getting him here. Now go away.” The Jace/Simon friendship is still one of my favorites.

It was so shitty of Lorenzo to tell Magnus he was keeping his apartment. So unnecessary. But Magnus’ “I have everything I need right here” as he nods at Alec was the perfect comeback.

Poor Magnus! He looks so defeated. It’s so heartbreaking. Harry is so damn good!

So I had a thought. As far as we can see, Alec has no reaction when Jace gets run through with the sword. He is so focused on Magnus. Could it be that Alec and Magnus’ bond is stronger than Alec and Jace’s Parabatai bond?

I love that Alec goes to Maryse for the family ring so he can propose to Magnus. But knowing what they are about to go through makes it all bittersweet. Buckle up, kids. The next 2 episodes are going to be pure hell - literally and emotionally.
