Episode 21 Alliance

This episode is all about saving Magnus. Everybody helps.

Maryse makes the mistake of talking as if Magnus is dead.

Alec refuses to give up on saving the love of his life from Hell.

Magnus proves that being the King of Hell doesn’t mean you have to be evil

Simon and Maia say a last goodbye to Jordan.

Sizzy finally happens. Until Izzy catches on fire.

Alec and Jace share a true older brother moment when they hear about Izzy and Simon.

Clary brings Alec terifying news.

Alec’s kneejerk solution is less than desirable.

Meliorn breaks a promise to Izzy.

Izzy defies Alec and goes after Magnus on her own.

Meliorn, Simon, and Lorenzo join the fight for Magnus.

Luke faces an unexpected new/old reality.

Alec finds Magnus and Malec reunites.

Jace can’t lie and it’s beautiful and hilarious.

I ride the roller coaster of joy and sadness. Joy as my Malec reunites and my gang fights as the family they are. Sadness as I face that the ride is coming to an end.

I love that this scene starts on Alec’s wedding ring. That’s going to be even more important here in the next scene.

I love that Maryse comes to take care of Alec. She knows that he is not taking care of himself. But she should never have implied that Magnus is gone for good. She knows Alec better than anyone - except maybe Magnus - and she should have known that would not go over well.

Like I said. Alec doesn’t hesitate to clarify that Magnus is not dead, only in Edom. And that Alec intends to make sure that is a temporary problem. After all, he has a wedding to plan.

Remember when I pointed out the last scene starting on Alec’s ring? This first Magnus scene starts on his ring. Just the show driving home that nothing will keep our guys apart. Not even Edom. And I love that Magnus has removed the silver ring he was wearing on his forefinger of his left hand in the last episode. Making it so that his wedding ring is now the only ring on his left hand.

The way Magnus looks up at Lilith when she has the nerve to enter his home, uninvited, is beautiful and terrifying. Lilith should have run.

I’m so proud of the way Magnus stands up to Lilith. Even in Edom, he uses his extraordinary powers for good. And Harry’s facial expressions are gold.

“Cheers to you, mate. You mattered to us.” I love Simon’s tribute to Jordan so much.

Maia’s speech to Simon about letting people know you hits hard. Especially for someone who does not find it easy to do that. Simon, she’s talking about Izzy! Go man!

Finally! The kiss we’ve been waiting way to long for. Damn that Heavenly Fire for getting in the way.

Alec’s phone call to Caterina, about Magnus’ lizard, is hilarious. I talk a lot about Harry’s excellent facial expressions. But Matt has some amazing ones, too. Like this one.

Alec and Jace’s reactions to Simon and Izzy’s kiss are hilarious. So very big brothers of them.

But she needs to be honest about the Heavenly Fire. They deserve the truth. Especially Simon.

I don’t blame Clary for being reluctant to tell Alec about Lilith’s plan for Magnus. She knows, just like we all do, that Alec is not going to take the news well.

And he doesn’t. I know it would solve the whole immortal/mortal issue between Magnus and Alec, but I really don’t want Alec to be a vampire. I get why he makes the suggestion, though. He thinks it’s the only answer to saving Magnus.

I adore the hell out of Meliorn. Even when he’s problematic. But I really adore him for coming to Alec and the others to tell them what Izzy is up to. Despite his promise to her, he knows she is going to need the others.

Alec dealing with fear and worry the only way he knows how - by being all stoic and broody and beautiful.

I really really love that Izzy goes to Edom to try to rescue Magnus. Even after the others told her it was too risky. She had a feeling her Heavenly Fire would make her immune. She took a gamble and it paid off.

The best way to win over Lorenzo - convince him he’ll be the hero. Lorenzo, you’re so easy.

Watching poor Simon panic over getting the Alliance Rune is so funny. And so adorable.

I love the Alec ends up with Warlock powers. It will give him a better understanding of Magnus.

“What could go wrong? It’s only Hell.” Oh sweet, innocent Simon…

This is one of those shots that I just managed to snap at the right moment, turning it into another one of my iPhone 17 art pieces. I have over 30 photo’s in that album now. I need to print them out and hang them around my house.

I am so impressed with Lorenzo staying calm and actually helping Alec to calm down. The way he encourages him, it’s so un-Lorenzo and I love it.

And I love that Alec regained control when he put his wedding ring back on.

Lorenzo’s redemption starts here, in Edom with Alec. Watching Alec worry over Magnus, seeing how much Alec love’s Magnus - this was when Lorenzo started to understand just what family means.

For Alec, he realized there was more to magic than his stele or Magnus’ power. The real magic is in the love he and Magnus have for each other.

Meliorn is so damn adorable. He is really enjoying Seelie-Can’t-Lie Jace.

I love this conversation between Clary and Simon. It’s powerful and heartbreaking given what happens to Clary later.

Melorn and Jace fight really well together. I wish we had gotten more of that. Also, hey Izzy. There you are!

Welcome back Shadowhunter Lucien.

Magnus reunited. Again. Finally! This look on Magnus’ face when he hears Alec calling his name.

Alec’s adorable, dopey smile when he sees Magnus.

The rush into each other’s arms and clinging to each other.

Magnus unable to stop touching Alec’s face. Alec declaring that he is staying in Edom with Magnus after they defeat Lilith. It’s so emotional and powerful and beautiful. I love every second of it. And Harry and Matt killed it. Again!

The joy of Clary and Simon and even Lorenzo at finding Magnus is so sweet. Because Magnus is just so loved by all of them.

And coming full circle with Magnus making this face when they ask if Izzy is there and he asks ‘Should she be?’ Just like when he makes this face in Season 1 Episode 4 after fighting the memory demon and Jace is unconcious and they ask Magnus if he will be okay. And Magnus asks ‘Does he normally just lay like that without moving?’

And the looks on Alec and Clary and Simon’s faces mirror the reactions of Alec and Clary and Izzy from that episode. Thankfully, this situation ends up as well as that one did.

“Actually I always kind of admired that about him.” Honestly, I love Seelie-Can’t-Lie Jace, too. Especially when he’s complimenting Simon. As does Izzy.

See ya next time for our final Shadowhunters episode - All Good Things…
