Episode 18 The Beast Within

In this episode, our gang are each battling their own inner beast.

Magnus struggles to fight the pain and anger of losing his magic. For a second time.

Alec wrestles with whether he should accept Asmodeus’ offer.

Maryse is still adjusting to life as a Mundane. And dating Luke.

Izzy struggles to defend Magnus and comfort Alec.

Alec bares some unfortunate truths.

Becky makes Simon face an inner truth he has been denying.

Alec digs deep and allows his inner beast to thoroughly wreck Magnus. All in the name of saving Magnus.

Magnus begs Alec to not do what he is doing and is left frozen when Alec walks away.

I fight the urge to hunt down every writer and producer that thought torturing Magnus and Alec was a good idea. Only because California is far away. And the story works. Damn Hollywood.

On the positive side, Becky is the most supportive and adorable person ever.

I continue to be in awe of Harry and Matt’s talents and their dedication to this amazing couple and to the LGBTQIA Community.

Becky is so adorable and I really wish she had been on more.

“I hate Halloween.” Awww Jace, it’s fun. Clary needs to take this guy trick or treating!

Okay, Magnus’pain is killing me! He’s trying so hard to be okay, but I see through him. And so does Alec.

ALEC!! DON’T GO TO THAT MEETING! FOR THE LOVE OF THE ANGEL!!

Alec, I understand why you’re afraid of losing Magnus. I really do. But you need to trust his love for you. THIS IS NOT THE WAY!!

This look on Alec’s face when Asmodeus tells him that he’ll return Magnus’ magic - IF Alec breaks up with Magnus! OMG! Alec, don’t let him get in your head.

I love Head of Institute Alec!!

Alec! Tell Jace what is really going on!! Give him a chance to give you real advice. Besides his situation with Clary is much different than yours and Magnus’!

Jace, come on! You know that was not a hypothetical!! I swear that Parabatai bond is broken!

I really love this friendship between Magnus and Maryse. They’re so cute. And so similar! I love that she told him about Luke.

“I’m not the first person he’s loved. And I won’t be the last.” I hate how much Alec believes this. And I hate that he’s not entirely wrong.

“Breaking up is going to hurt like hell. But it’he kind of hurt he can recover from.” No, he can’t! And WHAT ABOUT YOU, ALEC?!

“But what about you? Can you recover?” That’s what I said, Izzy!!

Alec, Izzy is right! Magnus wouldn’t want this. He has never loved anyone like he loves you and he will not recover from this. This whole confession rips out my heart. Partly because there is too much truth in everything Alec says.

And this look on his face!! OMG, I can’take it!

I’m so proud of Magnus and his determination to not drink after his breakdown in the last episode. And I love that he was honest with Maryse about it. And I love that Maryse was so supportive.

Becky calling out Simon on his feelings for Izzy is peak sibling. And epic!

Tell me why this Queen Demon thing looks like Jabba the Hutt’s grandmother!

I love when Alec and Jace fight together. They really do flow really well.

Ugh! The kiss that almost was. Stupid murdering Seelie Lanaia! You couldn’t have waited 3 more minutes before trying to kill Jonathan??

Ugh! Alec saying all those things to Magnus - that he needs a break from him, tthat the spark in Magnus he fell in love with is gone, that there was no fixing them - it cost Alec so so much. You can see it in his face and hear it in his voice. Matt did a devastatingly beautiful job.

And this look of disbelief and pain on Magnus’ face is so heartbreaking!! Harry also did such a devastatingly beautiful job!

Magnus pleading with Alec to not do this, that he can’t lose him, that he needs him - it’s all so well done and I both love and hate it.

And the kiss. Magnus trying to remind Alec what they have, Alec allowing himself this one last moment of being in the arms of his soul mate. So beautiful and poignant. And, I do mention this scene in the fanfic I am writing.

“Stay with me.” “Magnus, I can’t. I’m sorry.” And it is so obvious that this cost Alec everything to say that and walk away.

And the pain on Magnus’ face as he is left standing there. It’s almost too much and makes me want to throw up. It’s so crushing. Breaking Magnus broke Alec. And watching it breaks me. Every time! How the hell did Harry and Matt not win an Emmy for this? Hell, they should have won all the awards!

Fuck off, Asmodeus!!
